Day 17 - Guilty pleasures
We awoke to rain. Light taps above our head in the v-berth all morning made it really hard to get up and want to take Kona to shore. Anyone who has ever camped should know the feeling. It is hard to get up out of comfy bed to go out in 40 degrees and rain. Add getting in a wet dinghy and having to walk the last 50 feet to shore in cold lake Michigan water up to your shins. Kona needed it though. She had not properly really run in over 24 hours. We played a little Frisbee in the rain.
The June sailing season is still very cool. We have been very comfortable down in the main cabin with our diesel heater. We have lamented we really haven’t sat outside a lot in these two weeks. I look forward to days on deck. I’m going to get kicked out of the cabin anyhow with teenagers soon.
Back at Ciara we made some Bloody’s for breakfast. Our breakfast of choice for our rest, no sailing, days breakfast. I wrote my log and then Captain and I spent the rest of the day…how do I say? Doing what sailors do when there isn’t a sole around for miles and you are couped up in a boat together all day. I can only say I hope everyone gets the chance to be loved as greatly as Captain and I love each other. :D
We made Salisbury steak and mashed potatoes for dinner. This is one of our most favorite freeze-dried meals and such a guilty treat. Yep, we buy the frozen nasty Salisbury steaks and we put them in the freeze-dryer and can have them shelf stable on the boat! Sent a picture to the kids, they were jealous!
I played taps from inside the pilot house with my bell out the door as it was still raining at 9pm and one more trip to land for Kona. We were awake until at least 2am. Long slow day. We do need to start thinking of our sail to our home marina in Cedar River. Need to be there no later then next Friday, hoping Thursday afternoon and need to check weather. I have the worst service here at this bay and sadly, while quite beautiful, we haven’t gotten to enjoy it much because of the weather. I would come back here though. We are going to head about an hour north of here tomorrow and find a little town with cell service. Captain said he wanted to take me out to dinner so on to new adventures tomorrow!
