Day 4 - Lazy day
And so begins what I call the transition time. Now that the dust has settled from all the preparation and we have found a wonderful anchor hole I am staring at the walls. Not really. More like option paralysis. For some reason, early in the season the number one option I take is the nap. Napping and sleeping on the boat is so wonderful, but it does leave me a little cranky. I’m not quite into my book yet and haven’t gotten into a routine here for other things.
The day was pretty quiet. Just a few fishing boats around us in the morning. At 1pm our friends on Bellefonte joined us. They brought their wonderful puppy, Doree, to play with Kona. We joked they only came out so the dogs could hang out. The two of them fetched sticks for hours. Ryan and Captain spent most of the day doing so and chatting up with the other boats that had come for the day. Teri and I had both retreated to our boats. Not sure how she spent her down time, but that is where I took my said nap and read books. Two more beautiful sailboats came into this small anchorages before the evening. Both with blue hulls and quite beautiful. Not too often do you see three blue hulled sailboats in the same place around here.
The May flies are in full bloom. Our beautiful freshly painted deck is covered in the carcasses of fish food. I want scrub the deck, but it seems like a job of Sisyphus proportions at this point. Maybe just wait a few days until they get the memo that it is now June and wait for the June bugs….Then I’ll clean them up.
Ryan made us a wonderful curry dinner with our freeze-dried chicken and then magically it was already 10pm. I missed taps, not in the routine. The guys were worn out and already in bed so I did the dishes late and took Kona to shore under the darkness of the night by myself.
Not sure what tomorrow brings. We had talks of a long sail to Big Bay de Noc. There is a good southern blow coming for Monday and Tuesday. We can stay here by heading across the way to Nicolet bay less then mile or take the 7 hour sail to the middle of nowhere for a few days. I’m waiting on the opinion from Captain, who is still asleep, so we may be just loving Door County a few more days. And that is okay.
