Day 46 - Lazy Day

Eventually I run out of steam.  And today was that day.  Looking back, I realize that it has been rather non-stop for a while, even with little breaks here and there.  We slept really well.  I heard the rain overnight but turned over happy as our rain tarp was keeping us dry and letting us have those hatches open!  The wind picked up overnight as well and I could hear the mooring rode lines tighten against the samson post, moaning and squeaking with the tension.  I was up earlier then everyone but because of the rain I just hung out in the V-berth and relaxed.  As soon as everyone finally got up, I found I had given myself a little sea sickness in those three hours watching the boat swing from my view in the V-Berth to the back cockpit. It gave a bit of a nonstop carousel effect that in the end rendered me useless for a good portion of the day. Even when Captain and I went to land to take care of Kona I felt land sickness for the first time in ages. Imagine sitting on the toilet and feeling 5 foot seas.

So, I rested a good portion of the day.  The kids took the dinghy to shore and had fun in the recreational room playing with other kids and learning how to be pool sharks.  I tried really hard to not feel guilty but I did.  It’s okay to have a down day, especially when the world is spinning!

Eventually I was feeling better and we all headed to shore to play games and relax before dinner.  Dani, Captain and myself played some bocce ball on the lawn.

Sidney had invited us all out for dinner as a thank you for our generosity.  He made reservations at the Killarney Mountain Lodge.  Thankfully the kids had actually packed somewhat dress clothes as this was a nice restaurant.  The entire lodge where we are staying (on the mooring ball) reminds me so much of the Kellerman Lodge in Dirty Dancing and the vibes really make my heart happy.  I kept singing the Kellerman song all evening.  Dinner was really good with an all you can eat make your own pasta bar which we all jumped on.  We really enjoyed the fresh Cesar salad and the company.  We sat outside and watched Ciara in the Golden Hour and chatted about other hikes Sidney had done or was going to do.  He has been hiking for two weeks up here. We just happened to find him on the one hike that got to be too much.

After dinner we fetched Kona from the boat and found a campfire had been set on shore from the resort.  We went to go crash the fire as we hoped the mosquitos were better there; Sidney joined us. There were two sets of boaters there.  One of which we were anchored with at the Pool and had been leap frogging all day and the other had seen us come in the channel the day before.  We chatted a long time before they left for the evening.  They were interested in how the freeze drying had treated us and have little to no refrigeration as well so I promised that this winter I will dive more into the process and add that information here.  Many have expressed interest, so it sounds like a good project.

The stars came out and I gave Sidney a lesson in augmented reality and how to find constellations and stars with it.  The Milky Way was unbelievable stretching over the entire sky and very visible to the naked eye. I grabbed a pretty picture.

And with that it was time for bed.  Sidney gave two dozen large water bottles (9.3 gallons!) for our journey which will now let us stay out a little longer before we need to get more. We said our good-byes as he was leaving for home tomorrow and we are headed into new places as well.
