Day 7 - Scooter rides and rain
We knew we were staying one more day so it was nice to sleep in with no agenda once again. I found that Dave from yesterday had posted on his social media about us and just as luck would have it, we had a neutral friend who popped in to say “Hey, I know Deb!” Now we are all connected on social media.
After breakfast we loaded our electric scooters on the dinghy and secured Kona down below deck. We wanted tacos for dinner as it was Tuesday but needed some fresh ingredients. Sister Bay has a Piggly Wiggly about 8 miles away so off we went! The scooters are so much fun and can handle about 20-25 miles on a charge. We go about 20 miles per hour with them. After we got the few groceries, we checked out the Marina and couldn’t pass up our favorite ice cream in Door County at the Door County Ice Cream Factory.
We stopped on the way home and went up Eagle Tower. Saw our new friend Tim (another Tim, not diver Tim) who we had also met the night before there.
We got back to Ciara to relax for a bit. We read some more. Maybe there was a cat nap in there. Some kayaks came out to visit. We have had a terrible time remembering names and something we hope to improve on shortly. The gentlemen has some old boat parts that might suit our needs. He lives in Madison so we have some new folks to hang out with this winter. We have him our card and as soon as we hear from him we will commit those names to memory. Sigh. The storm was just getting starting to pipe up around 4pm. We secured all items on deck and closed all the hatches. We had good wind and held steady. Captain had dug the anchor in really well. Nearing dinner time I decided to make homemade tortillas to see how practical that was on board. It worked well enough. I have to remember I have flour hands and not going touching all the settees. We have been cooking so much at home we are having a harder and harder time eating processed foods. They just taste wrong. Store bought tortillas are one of these things. I suppose there are bigger concerns in the world then making your own food.
Kona got one last long walk before sunset. We met a nice family. Everyone we meet seems to be from the Madison area so far. That will change soon. We chatted a long time and just as we were loading the dinghy to go back to the boat the skies opened up and we rode back in a downpour. Captain didn’t mind that I did dishes pant-less since I was soaked. Hahahaha
And just like that we finish our first week away. We have only been out and away from the dock 5 days so our holding tanks seem to be doing just fine. Refrigeration is doing great. Batteries and solar have kept us from having to run the engine. There is no wind in the forecast for the next many days. It will be mostly motoring but we are hauling anchor tomorrow and making our way to the Beaver Island archipelagos. If all goes well dropping the hook in a new location at High Island. Kona greatly looks forward to sandy beaches and I look forward to Caribbean blue waters.
