Day 73 - Taking care of business in Sturgeon Bay

This morning Kurt kayaked to say hi before Captain and I could will ourselves to shore.  I was busying doing my tippity tap tap logging when he came over.  Captain invited him aboard and showed him around and chatted for a bit. He had to get going as they were leaving mid-day.  Captain, seeing how I was very much in my own world writing, loaded up the dinghy with our scooters and Kona and was going to tow her to shore with the Sea-Doo that was still attached to our boat overnight.  Kona was all cute in the dinghy ready to go but as soon as captain starting towing, she decided she wanted to be with him and jumped in.  He stopped, pulled her on the Sea-Doo and they went off the shore.  After Kona had her morning play and shore time Captain came back with Kona to exchange with me.

We had decided we needed to scooter to Sturgeon Bay a little over five miles away to take care of some business. I really love these scooters as they open up so many more activities and ablity to do things. We also get to go slower then a car and really enjoy seeing the landscapes and appreciate all the cute homes are farms along the way.

Once in Sturgeon Bay Captain and I split up for a bit.  I found internet and did some weather checking as well as got my log posted.  Captain took his scooter over to our new winter boat yard to meet the folks there and see where Ciara will be this winter. He said the building is really nice and good folks. He then scootered across the drawbridge to our old boat yard and told them he was there to find his boat stands, mark them and set them aside as we will be picking them up on Monday. He was able to find them and take care of that in all about an hour.  I caught up to him at a local park and we scootered to the grocery store another mile away.  In good fortune, the grocery store is in the same parking lot as the U-Haul rental place.  We stopped there first and secured a rental truck for Monday. It is odd to us that we can now spend our time on the boat also taking care of errands.  We then popped over to the grocery store and picked up an amazing cut of tenderloin, broccoli and rosemary to make dinner for uncle Brian.

With our errands done we scootered back to the cottage.  Plugged in the scooters and sat down on the beach to enjoy watching uncle Brian wind surfing out on the bay.  The afternoon was already rolling along but I was in no mood for an early dinner as the weather is getting muggy enough “to wear it.”  Uncle Brian offered us the Sea-Doo to go play so we took him up on that and took a short ride over to this neat neighborhood that was open to the lake and has a man made canal so everyone can have a boat in their back yard. It is always fun to check out. I noticed how different the lake homes in WI are compared to the “Michigan rich” homes we see on the west coast of Michigan.  Afterward we did our little tour we went to go fetch Kona. What a thrill to go 40mph on the water! That felt fast and smiles per mile that thing is great!

Kona was happy to see us and happily jumped on the Sea-Doo to head back to shore. I packed a light snack and a book and we headed back to the beach and shaded trees until the sun was setting low.

Uncle Brian came back to Ciara with us and we made him a wonderful dinner and we all told our stories until late in the night.  I developed a headache from the heat and was pretty tired so Captain returned Brian to shore with Kona for her last walk.

It was a beautiful day and very relaxed, yet it all seems to be going pretty quickly now.  I am finding myself with thoughts of “we are pretty much done now” and thinking of the homestretch even as I tell myself to soak up every last minutes of this time.  Soon enough we will be in sandless beds with comfortable air. We will have a full kitchen with good refrigeration and hot running water. I can take Kona for walks without worrying about range with our motor and all the other little things we take for granted at home. But we will be home and the winter is long so for now I am trying my hardest to suppress what is to come and enjoy every minute left.
