Day 76 - Important errand and rain rain rain

5:30am potty wake up call. Or was it the….rain!???!! Dang it, that was NOT on the forecast at all! This weather forecasting has been totally off lately and it is really frustrating….

Captain got up and handled the outdoor hatches while I closed the portholes.  Captain realized we left the scooters ashore and not covered as we were not expecting rain.  Since we had alarms set for 7am we decided he would take Kona to shore now anyhow and move the scooters under the shelter.

He came back and we rested until our new alarm at 7:30am We were back ashore just about 8:30 to collect our scooters and be on our way for our chore of the day. Upon walking up the shelter I said “looks like they have already been by to clear out our coals” as I observed the grill up and a clean area.  Captain remarked “and where are our scooters?” Oh no! It was pretty obvious that the parks and rec department had beat us to the shelter. The trash was all cleaned out, the pavilion washed out and a new sign hung with the days reservations so we concluded they took it as lost and secured it.  We called the city (thankfully they open at 7:30!) and left a message and called U-Haul to say we may be late.  About 15 minutes later a city truck pulled up.  Two nice girls got out and were not there for us but were able to open the locked pavilion storage to find, much to our delight, our scooters! Phew! They had the charging ports so they would have been prime to steal. We called the city back and canceled the SOS and thanked them.  Thankfully they didn’t give us a hard time either.

That predicted rain that wasn’t supposed to be here until 5pm started at 5:30am and it was still drizzling as we took off into town to get our U-Haul.  Even so we were only about 20 minutes late.

We headed to Centerpointe to get our old stands. Captain said it would be a lot of work as they were all scattered among the other stands and they are all stacked on top of each other in an alley.  Thankfully we were able to move things around quickly and the truck was loaded with all our gear in about half an hour.  And the manager never showed up to confront us thankfully.  We carted the stands across the drawbridge to our new winter home at Bay Marine.  Captain introduced me to the new yard manager and we dropped our stands in front of new building. It appears to be an old show room. There are many large, floor to ceiling windows (these boat houses are nearly 5 stories high) and a more finished floor then the concrete in our old shed.  It is a bit of a drive for the travel lift and I’m nervous to watch Ciara make the drive this fall. Stay tuned :D

Overall, we are so excited for the move and we are glad to get that chore done sooner rather than later.  We stopped by George and Teri’s house quickly to chat before we returned the van.  Thankfully the rain was in a gap for the trip home. We stopped at the Wal-Mart to pick up some D/C splitters we needed and also a new D/C radio transmitter as we fried our last one. Oh, and a kit kat bar!

It is cool in the lower 60’s. With the rain and driving around town in scooters we were pretty chilled but held off getting all cuddled up in blankets to take Kona to shore for some real play time before she too is cramped up in the boat the rest of the day.

We made a late meal that covered for our main meal for the day and then took a nap call that only a rain storm can demand. At least the entire evening of thunderstorms had been downgraded to just all-day rain. And it did rain, all afternoon and evening.  And we slept hard. I woke around 6pm and Captain managed to slowly wake up by 8pm. Yikes!  We emptied our lithium batteries into our house bank while we read and goofed off and then took them to shore to charge while we walked Kona in the dark.  Sturgeon Bay was so quiet as we walked in the drizzle, the rain spotting up my glasses the entire way. Both Captain and I are starting the “one week and we will be home” talk.  Wow, time has flown and we aren’t ready to go home. We will have been out for nearly 1/3 of a year when we return. I know I have said a lot about A/C and running water being what I am looking forward to the most, but after the last few days I’m looking forward to the weather not being such a burden on our daily lives, especially when the forecasts are so drastically off. I wonder if this has to do with fund being cut and firing of those responsible for the forecasting. It is only a matter of time before people get hurt on the water thinking it is a safe day to go out only to find out otherwise….

Speaking of weather…we should be able to move to Egg Harbor tomorrow. I’m looking forward to our old favorite anchorage as it feels like home and I know we will be comfortable there as we now slowly make our way back to Cedar River.
