Day 2 - More provisioning - More Social time
We awoke at 5:30am so we could be ready to have our mast stepped at 6am. That went pretty smooth. Had a little hang up with the jumpers and held our breathe for a few moments but all was well and set by 9am. Captain had noticed one of our house bank batteries was running warm/hot and after consulting our friends with a little more electrical know how we decided it was time to replace them as they were over 8 years old. Our connections at West Marine (Thanks George!) got us a great discount on two new deep cycle AGMs. Being newer and better that is an automatic 40% increase in our battery bank. I’m really excited for the boost!
I returned the old batteries in our rental car and then took the car back to the Cherryland Airport. Had fun riding my scooter back to town and realized I was now car free for the next three weeks. Yay!
I took my baby cilantro and made hanging pots with some line. I assembled the new solar shower and figured out how it works. That is neat and I look forward to trying that out! Captain changed the oil and fixed the painter on the dinghy. And all the other little things.
Normally we put in the boat and have weeks and weeks of trips up to Door County to provision the boat and get her all settled. When it took us two full days to get her ready this time, I remembered we were doing it all at once. We will spend one more night here at the ship yard and set off tomorrow. We got Ciara’s sails on, cleaned her up and had endless lines of friends coming to see us before we left.
Our friend Scott came over again, this time with his awesome girlfriend from Chicago, Ellie. We were going to go to an great supper club but they ran late thanks to Chicago traffic so we went to our favorite Mexican place instead, Old Mexico. We had such a nice time and were re-telling many a pirate stories. Ellie is moving to Colorado which makes us all sad for the distance, but I promised her I’m always looking for an excuse to head to my other home. I can almost feel the waters of Glenwood Springs now…
One more day in our old home port area. It feels strange to think that tomorrow we won’t just go put her across the channel in our old slip and instead sail away. Probably won’t be back here until we take her out in mid-October. The muscle memory seems to be here, I remember my bowline and all the tasks that have to get done. Let’s go, adventure 2025!
