Living the dream with you

I slept like a baby! Kona and I were up by 7am and enjoyed an early morning walk and Frisbee since we were at the dock and didn’t need to take a dinghy ride to shore.  It was a bit windy for Frisbee and didn’t get a lot of that in.  We went for a short walk where Kona got to see a deer.

I had a lot of chores to make up on doing such as the dishes and giving Ciara a general clean up, charging every electrical thing I could think of and my blog.  Captain spent some time making some breakfast and then was able to fix Carl!  He sacrificed our already broken squeegee and plastic welded him back together.  Back when we first thought we lost him our first thought was we should have put our information on him so I took the time a few days ago to make sure he was properly labeled and hopefully will be returned to us should he ever really go missing.

The power boater next to us had come out this morning and asked if we used to keep Ciara at Centerpointe in the winter.  He recognized our boat but thought we were new owners because of Captain’s beard. Lol!  Dean and Captain had talked to each other many times over the years.  There really aren’t too many strangers out here for us anymore.

Once Captain was done with Carl he decided to see if we could at least find my glasses with our GoPro.  We had to MacGyver and extra long camera stick and film blind.  When the footage was revealed, we saw them sitting exactly where I knew they would be.  They are about 12 feet down.  I am a real wimp when it comes to cold, murky water diving. The seafloor here is all muck from the organic material in the harbor.  Thankfully our friends who live in Garden were planning on visiting us tonight and one of them likes to free dive and is going to do me a solid.

We finally were done with all our little projects and ready to go for a little hike around 1:45pm!  It would have been plenty of time for all the walking we wanted to do but I forgot I had an important phone call at 2:30.  We just walked a little around the old buildings before I headed back for my one and half hour meeting. Booo.  By the time that was done we were expecting our friends around 5 and didn’t have enough time to really go do much.  We started making dinner of tacos for everyone.

Phil, Gordy, Doc and his wife and daughter arrived around 6:30pm.  Dinner was ready and I was starving!  We met this whole crew last year when we anchored just north of here in Garden Bay.  Not very common to have anyone anchor up in their bay and the entire town at the time were very curious to who these crazy folks on a sailboat were.  We had such a nice time with them last year that we let them know we were down the road at Fayette and they should come for dinner, which they happily complied!

Doc was going to free dive for my glasses but the weather was pretty cool and wind was making it a bit choppy and decided he would come back tomorrow and try.

Gordy had brought me a flower he picked. He said it would only bloom for about a day.  I am enjoying it fully and it was a very sweet gesture.  Gordy is super smart and well respected up here.  He is an old ship builder, fisherman and amazing Gardner.  He said he has a freeze dryer and is still learning. I quizzed him after the meal if he could figure out what we had that had been dried.  He was shocked to learn that the meat, cheese and salsa were all Freeze-Dried. So were the jalapeños and hot pepper powders but I don’t think anyone but Captain and I indulged in those. The Freeze-Dried cheese is really working.  My only complaint is it doesn’t stay in a perfect “shredded cheese” form and balls up a little; however, the texture and taste and spot on. Not slimly, not crunchy. Perfect.  My Salsa Verde came back beautifully as well being the first time to try that! I have been taking jalapenos slices and hand crushing them over my tacos for a spicy crunch that is amazing!

Our guests enjoyed their meal and time aboard Ciara and departed just shy of 9pm.  I played Taps as they disappeared up the hill to the parking lot.

Captain and I took a sunset walk to the slag beach on the other side of the peninsula where the water was calmer and the beach faced to the southwest.  The sun setting to our right on the north side of our view. I’m sure this would be a great beach to track the sun in the sky throughout the seasons.

Kona couldn’t help staying out of the water as much as I tried.  She spent the sunset chasing sticks and her coat shimmered in the late day sun.  We spent the sunset in each other’s arms and grateful for all the friends we have met and continue to meet.  Captain said to me as the sunset “I love this life with you. We are truly living the dream.” He is right, I count every moment.
