New trails and sails

I forced myself up just shy of 9am, super late for my normal time, but we were up really late.  We did get some coffee ashore and that really helped. After our normal walk we came back to Ciara for a bit.  Not really wanting a full breakfast I grabbed some eggs and Captain got some oatmeal pies while we settled into our late morning.  Captain pulled out his bass and amp and played on deck for a while wrote my blog.

The winds were off shore again today and we felt compelled to keep an eye out on the bay.  The beach was busy for a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We found a lot of people in kayaks come up to Carl and pick him up!  They saw him and were shocked to see he was attached to an anchor line.  Thankfully they all dropped him upon the realization and didn’t cut his line and take him.  One of those people was a cheerful Latino man who was out with his wife and daughter. Those two were on those darn SUPs and were already being pushed out past the no wake buoys.  We told him he ought to call them back.  He did understand and we watched for well over half an hour try and try.  Finally, Captain gave up and went and got them.  They were exhausted. No way they were making their way back.  After their return Captain wrote a pretty strong Facebook note to the community about the dangers.

Not really wanting to watch more water drama we decided we wanted to take another long hike.  I studied the map and found some trails we haven’t done before that would take us to Eagle Tower. We had a lovely six miles hike through the woods and a trail that everyone seems to ignore as the other hikes here have much more “wow” factors to them.  We loved it.  We enjoyed a snack of Freeze-Dried apples at the tower and Kona got pets from strangers and returned home.

We got back to Ciara around 5pm.  At 5:30 our friend Jeannine arrived at the boat launch.  We are all connected through the sailing club down in McFarland that Captain and I are more honorary members of as we are never there.  She had come up to visit some other club members that live up here now (our good friends George and Teri) and come sail with us.  She dreams of living on a sailboat and wanted to come sail and visit.

The winds had calmed to a much more reasonable wind speed so as soon as she was aboard, we decided to take an evening sail. I put her to work hulling anchor and lifting sails which we did right away. We sailed downwind to Sister Bay, past the escarpment wing to wing.  Upwind was a beautiful sporty sail back. We almost never just go for a joy sail.  That was super nice and scenic, and the company grand.

Once we were back secure at anchor I made tacos.  UPDATE ON MY CHEESE!  That cheese I re-constituted a few days ago came back beautifully!  It wasn’t as pretty as newly shredded cheese but the texture and everything was perfect!!!  So, with cheese I must make a day in advance and just keep in the fridge.  I am so happy this works. Jeannine was thrilled to watch dinner being made from half freeze-dried food.  I got brave and broke a Freeze-Dried jalapeño over my tacos taking them to the next level. Wowza!!!

Dinner was on the late side so I was a bit surprised as I finished my meal to look at my watch and see that it was five past 9pm.  I hastily grabbed my trumpet and played taps, out of breath I played not so well, but I got the job done.

We went to shore well about 10pm and had a great laugh walking the dark trails while Jeannine freaked out in the darkness without a flashlight.  We know the path well and trust that there aren’t any trip hazards, but when you don’t know the trail and your friends “disappear” into the darkness and then reappear it creates an unexpected jump scare.

Back at Ciara we stayed up to 1am talking and laughing about life before we finally forced ourselves to bed.
