One last turn around weekend

Sarah and Collin left in the morning not long after waking up.  I’m sure, as happy as they were, they were also very happy to get in an air-conditioned car and go back home to her golden retriever.  It was just shy of 9am and when we said our goodbyes.  We went to breakfast only to find the one place closed due to a water issue.  We found another place in Stephenson, MI which was closer than the other two major towns up here.  So, we went on a 10-mile car trip to and old barn restaurant that had a great breakfast.  We were enjoying our breakfast when the owner of the Halfway, Chelsea, walked in with her chef (and friend, because they are all friends up there).  It was neat to run into someone we knew! Ha!

Captain and I had really nothing to do in Cedar River. I’m sure we could have played tourist and hung out another day but we looked at each other and both felt that going home a day early would be ok since A/C sounded amazing and just relaxing a little before our big part of the summer seemed like a good idea.

There really isn’t much to report for the weekend.  We saw some awesome concerts for Cory and had an amazing dinner with my parents Saturday night. We got our last bit of grocery shopping done and made sure the liquor store didn’t forget our names. Sunday we were up bright and early and on the road with Cory and Kona back to Cedar River.  We had to detour all the way to Door County as Captain had left his drone controller on land and thankfully it was turned into a lost and found nearby.  It was a big detour, but so glad we recovered that and undamaged as well!

We were back at Ciara by 2:30pm.  We immediately undocked her and took her to the fuel dock to get her tanks full and holding tanks empty. It’s always nice to start a big trip as empty and full as possible!

I spent some time loading up the rest of our goods and then Captain was chomping at the bit to go the Halfway and play for open mic, which he missed last week.  Cory has never been as well.  We enjoyed our meal and company for dinner while watching Captain plunk out his bass guitar with a local.  I am amazed that folks have perfect pitch and can just join along. There was a local there who picked up his trumpet and just totally joined in.  Nope, not me. I can’t improvise myself out of a paper bag.

We came back to Ciara and tried making a new Cherry-tini drink that I wanted to perfect.  It was very good and now we have to limit how many of those we make as we only have one bottle of Door County Cherry Vodka and I want to share that with friends in Canada!

I played taps at 9pm at the marina.  There are more boats up here now and we even got to chat with a few of them earlier in the afternoon.  Okay, Captain got to chat, I was doing my chores :D

Tomorrow, we set off east for our big portion of the summer. Tomorrow Captain and I cross Lake Michigan for our twentieth crossing! It will be a super long day and I hope we can sail at least a little bit of it as the winds are predicted light all day.

I did spend a little time thinking about the blog and the next eight weeks.  I do make a very good habit of getting it written every day, however the process of uploading pictures and formatting everything can take a bit of time and energy away from the day.  That is not my focus for the summer so I wanted to just give a heads up that I will be posting, but it very well might go a few days in between when timing, mood and internet strikes best. I also have a horrible habit of just rotting on my phone once I try and get online. Even if I’m reading the same preloaded things five times hoping maybe it will change.  That’s just silly, so I’m making goals that make good use of this precious time.
