Quiet day in Fayette
Woah, we slept in until 10:30! Cool nights and the comfort of a dock I suppose. I spent way to much time in the morning not only writing my blog but trying to make videos. I had to stop myself around 1pm as I realized I have limited power and resources and making videos is not what I wanted to spend my time on. I am really enjoying making them as I feel they add depth to my blog and so far I have been able to keep up with my one video per day goal. I am looking forward to some winter learning and projects.
Just as I was finally done goofing off and we were getting ready to go on a hike it started to rain. The rain had originally been forecasted to be all day but had waited, and delayed, much like me until 2pm. We spent the rain doing an inventory of our booze so we can properly stock up for the longer eight weeks coming up. Provisioning a boat for eight weeks with the intent of minimal shopping on shore is an interesting task. I also have to have a detailed list of the liquor/beer for customs so this felt as good of time as any to get the spreadsheet in order. We had the floor boards up and emptying the bilges all while Kona tried to find a place to be out of the way. No worries, since we were down there, we vacuumed up all her hair that had fallen between the floor boards so far this year. Yuck.
The rain let up around 4 and we went for our last hike to the top of the escarpment. Always a nice hike. Kona saw some deer. On our way back we stopped and checked out a few of the buildings we hadn’t yet this trip. “Let’s go check out the furnace, said no jew ever” is our joke as terrible as it is. The old stone furnace, the centerpiece of the old town, is blocked off and appears to be one major storm away from being rubble. I know they are working hard preserving this town so I hope there is some plan to save the towers.
Captain wanted to go give business to the local bar that was closed the night we go in. We unloaded the scooters and took the longer (but paved!) way to the Port Pub. It was pretty quiet when we got there but the bartender was nice and pulled out her homemade “apple pie” liquor that we remembered from last time. We had a nice supper and by the time we left the place was hoping with at least 5 cars in the lot!
Back at Ciara we took Kona for an extended Frisbee excursion as the park was pretty dead an hour before closing. Again we met with a park ranger who seemed more pleased with Kona then upset that she was off leash. Good ownership and manners count. :D I played Taps at 9pm and we had a nice chat with our boat neighbor Dean who has been a real joy to be next to all week.
We have a good window to sail back to our home marina of Cedar River tomorrow. Rain expected overnight. We spent just a little time getting Ciara ready to leave in the morning and called it a night. Captain and I are pretty amazed how fast the days go when at sea. We have been overly social so far this year and our quiet slow days have yet to happen. I suppose I should remember this when Fall and Winter come.
