Day 16 - 7/11/24
We have slip reservations in St. Ignace tonight which is right around the corner from where we have been hanging out the last two nights. We called the marina at 8am and found out our slip was vacant and we could come in any time.
We pulled up the anchor and set off. It’s only about 8am or 1.5 hours if we maintain a nice speed. We tried to sail under the Mighty Mac but the wind was so slow we just had to motor it. It’s always a treat to see this bridge and fun to sail under. You can hear the rumble from the grated road from miles away.
Had no issues coming into our slip and we all immediately went into task mode. We cleaned Ciara top to bottom and made lists for re-provisioning. I inventoried all the ship liquor stores (need to know for Canada customs). Ciara is looking beautiful and is so happy to be sailing with her family.
After that we all took a much overdue shower! Cory made dinner and I played taps at the marina. If the boat itself doesn’t bring people to chat, that does. It is really nice to know it’s appreciated. The boat next to us was thrilled and was a former trumpet player as well. He said my tone was amazing
Another sailor then came over and chatted with us until midnight showing us all the anchorages he has been to for the next leg of our journey. The information is very welcome. I did as much research as I could but we are going to pretty remote areas; it is hard to find info. Part of my plan is to be social and have those who know be our teachers.
The next few days will be logistical, not ideal, but what made this trip work. Richard and I had dropped a car here three weeks ago. We will be driving home picking up my kids (I miss them and can’t wait to bring them aboard), seeing our parents and family and heading back for leg two.
