Day 29 - 7/24/24

The weather has been just perfect this trip, but weather does happen and it just worked perfectly that a rainy and windy day we were docked in Little Current. It was nice not to have to be confined inside our boat all day and hang out on land.

I awoke around 8am after being up past 2am. I asked Richard if he wanted to go to the VHF/Ham broadcast that is held here on town at 9. Roy has been running a daily show in the basement of a local restaurant for over 20 years. I had read about him only research and we had been listening and calling in since we got to the Turnbull Islands with our boat name and location.

We arrived and introduced ourselves, and he immediately knew who we were as our reputation preceded us. I asked what I could do to help with the broadcast and I was given the task of scribe, marking his log book of each hosts name and location. We had nearly 60 boats call in and it was neat to see his log of thousands of check ins just from this summer alone. He then decided to interview me. Yikes! Richard said I did a great job, talking about why I play Taps/Last Post, our boat and our experience so far in the North Channel. It was a really special morning.

After we roused the kids with the lure of shore coffee and met up with Lilly and Karl for the day. The kids really relished in Wi-Fi while we ran some errands in their jeep. We took a wrong turn and ended up going over the old swing bridge. I had not realized it was a single lane old railroad bridge. The bridge honestly terrified me and I’m glad I won’t be driving it again and going through it from the water. It’s old, and does not give off an impression of sturdy.

We socialized all day, had a zoom call with Randina as we missed her and checked out the little birdcage lighthouse. We had an incredible homemade chili from Lilly for dinner.

I played Taps/Last Post with special intent as it is my cousins 3rd yahrzeit. We miss him terribly.

Tomorrow we head out on our “adventure” (as Faith, Lilly and Karl’s calls it). We are so excited to spend this time with them and just can’t believe they are here with us!
