Day 30 - 7/25/30

Today we headed back to the Benjamin islands. Karl Perron and Elizabeth Mc Donough were game for an adventure with us and since it’s our first time up here we wanted to know where we were taking them. The Benjamins we knew would be fun for the entire family and had amazing land access for the dog and kids.

The sail was amazing. We had to beat up wind for the first time in a loooooong time. Starting with low winds I was even able to make 2lbs of bacon on the way. The 14nm sail took about 4 hours with the tacking and got gradually more and more sporty, eventually seeing us screaming into the the Bay of Benjamins at 7 knots and healed over past 20 degrees. It was pretty epic. Lilly and Karl had a great time sailing for the first time and their daughter was spent her time down below coloring, supporting Kona and putting her life jacket on to come into the cockpit. We all laughed while trying to stand when the boat was healed over so much. Danica had a good fall when she tried to stand but stood on her blanket and had a one way ticket to the other side of the boat. She is ok.

No issues finding a place to drop hook and many boats soon followed us in. We took Kona to shore and other boats where asking us as we passed if we were the boat with the trumpet player. Oh! This is not something I’m getting used too. Who knew things how I’d be a famous trumpet player.

We pulled out all our fun things for our guests. Sprinkles the unicorn got inflated for the first time in years, hammock swing got hauled up and after swim time and lunch we took everyone ashore for hiking and blueberries. This time we found raspberries - I prefer these much more. Yummmmm!

We were treated by Karl and Lilly to a dinner of homemade pulled pork and we all devoured our sandwiches.

We don’t actually have enough space on our boat to host 8 sleepers so we had bought a tent when we were in Little Current. Cory and Bert were very excited to pitch a tent and be left ashore for the night. They had a ship radio, and even electricity from

Their solar power. It’s really good to see your kids do things.

After Last post Cory and Bert joined us at the campfire and then Danica had noticed if she walked up the rocks away from the lights she had a wonderful sky view. The two of us spend an hour just gazing at the stars and had a rare wonderful moment/daughter time. We saw the Milky Way and shooting starts. I hiked down to show Richard the amazing Milky Way photos when I learned they had been noticing the subtle hints of the Northern Lights. I quickly went back to Danica to check with my camera and both Danica and I gasped loudly when the 10 second exposure showed the most brilliant showing of lights. I still wish I could see them this brilliant with my naked eye. It was Danica’s first sighting and she was beside herself with joy.

This is why I bring them. So incredibly grateful for the moments. So incredibly humbled in the vastness of this universe and we get to be this lucky to take a moment bear witness to it.

What a special day with amazing friends and family
