Day 33 - 7/28/24

Up and at em again this morning. We had to get things going to make the 10am bridge. We said goodbye to our friends and all agreed we couldn't believe the time together was already over. We put water in tanks and got everything ready then went to the service dock for a pump out.

Just in time for the bridge I was grateful for going past it and not over it. Even from the water this bridge is something to behold...and not in a magnificent way, but a "wow, I can't believe this thing still works" way.

We soon passed Strawberry Island and the "most photographed lighthouse" in Lake Huron. It was beautiful. There were sailboats everywhere which gave Richard a chance to race because if there are two boats on the water...it's a race.

Only about 12nm of wonderful sailing until we reached the mouth of Baie Fine. Reportedly the longest fresh water fjord in the world. Richard had promised me to mix my favorite thing with his. Mountains and water and he delivered! We passed a 600 foot cruise ship and found the narrow entrance to the fjord. Once in we were treated by towering walls on each side, never being more than 1/2 mile wide. What a treat! We were able to sail most of the way down the fjord which is 6nm long! We were then forced to take sail down for the last two nautical miles. At the very end the fjord narrows to 200 feet and takes you to a place called the pool. It is here we would drop anchor for a few nights.

I can't describe this place. Nor do pictures do it justice. We are sounded by mountains (in Colorado we would call them foothills) in complete protection. I am in heaven.

We scouted the land and found that camping can be done here (noted for another time) and found many campfire spots. Had a lovely dinner and drinks and had folks stop by to say they heard us on the radio and wanted to say hi, see the boat and meet the trumpeter.

Of course my 9pm show was more of a treat for me with the echo being multiple seconds long.

We were exhausted from 5 epic days so we went to bed before 11pm!! The downside to such a protective anchorage is how calm it is...and the calmer the wind the more aggressive the mosquitos and the boat was hot with not cross breeze.

We are excited for an adventure tomorrow and Richard made a fresh homemade batch of bloody mix so that will help get me out of bed.
