Day 48 - 8/12/24
We begin our journey backing familiar waters. All weekend the 10 day forecast had been perfect. I had thought we’d have the flexibility to travel slowly but this morning it’s looking like a long blow is expected later this week so we need to make haste and make some big pulls so we can rest in a safe place. So rest later and work now….
We set alarms for 9am and we’re on our way around 10:45 after getting fuel and a pump out. Being up to 3am the night before was worth it, but feeling it now. The straights of Mackanaw were choppy and low wind so we were getting tossed around like we were in a bath tub for the majority of the day. I was reminded of how much work the kids did on this trip when I was the sole person responsible for lines, crew, galley chef anchoring. What??? I have to do everything???
We dropped anchor just outside of Petoskey around 7pm. We have never been here before and tonight’s weather allowed us to make a stop here.
We loaded Kona on the dinghy and set off to see the adorable town. It is a beautiful little city and pretty much closed up on a Monday evening which made walking the streets very relaxing. We stopped at a brew house and had a light and delicious dinner then walked to the lighthouse and around the shore a bit.
We are both tired and have another few days of pulls. Looking forward to being able to rest for a few days when the weather comes. We lit the lanterns and enjoyed each others company and called it a night shortly before midnight. We’ve been sleeping so well as the night temps have been dropping to much more reasonable temps.
