Day 80 - Recharging batteries

Wow, we actually slept without fans last night it was cool and breezy on its own. I guess there are some advantages to the upcoming fall. Hard to put my head about the fact that we have really been on Ciara all summer long. But also, hard to realize that today is day 80!!

We had a lazy morning, or at least it felt like it.  Evelyn and I were on our way to shore with Kona just a little after 8am.  We took Kona to The Big Easy which is a favorite here in Egg Harbor.  New Orleans breakfast and lunch foods.  We have always loved their Beignets and that was are target objective. Evelyn and I enjoyed sprinkling Kona with extra powdered sugar and making her a “reverse dalmatian” much to the delight of all the other diners eating outside with us.

Evelyn and I got some much needed one on one time and even chilled out at the park overlooking the marina for quite a while before we headed back to Ciara to give Captain his portion of breakfast.

After breakfast we headed back to shore.  We took Evelyn over to see the Eggs that have now been to the front lawn of the library up to their outside deck.  I have never been to the library here and it is beautiful with lots of art work scattered around.  They were setting up for the big Gala this evening to auction off the eggs, so after we did our browsing, we headed across the street to an abandoned concert shell so Kona could get some much-needed Frisbee time in.  Kona taught Evelyn the ins and outs of the games, but mostly showed Evelyn how much she drools on the Frisbees and grossing her out.

We headed back to the boat to relax. Part of the reason Evelyn here is to BREATHE and take a break (recharge their personal batteries so to say), so we did that. I sat at the bow for a few hours (I think Captain may have napped) and finished my book, The Handmaid’s Tale.  No need to really review this one as I think most folks know about this book. I last read it as required reading as a very ignorant child. I remember the book being good even with my lack of knowledge at the time but this time it was very interesting, funny and well written.  Also, terrifying.

The afternoon slowly made its way to evening. I made some fresh tortillas and we made our most reliable boat meal, tacos! Evelyn has been wanting to try a martini (hence why we picked up some vermouth) so I made a dirty martini for us to share.  Turns out Evelyn is not ready for said drink, at all. I, however, have grown in my appreciation of gin and kina liked it for the first time. Although I will say I need much more then three olives to get it down.

Since we have had pizza the last many nights before our small collection of dishes had grown and combined with dinner dishes, I had a lot.  Captain and Evelyn packed up Kona and our power packs and headed to shore to pirate power and also surf the web (hahahaha, I’m the only one with reception at the boat).

Just as I was finishing my dishes chore on board I heard a large explosion and the boat lite up like the 4th of July.  I immediately recognized it as a firework and quickly assumed it was a one off. Nope!  There was a wedding on the opposite side of the bay and they had hired fireworks to be set off at the breakwater at the marina just a tenth of a mile from the stern of our boat.  I sat outside and enjoyed the pirated entertainment. I would later learn that poor Kona was shitting bricks and shaking like crazy. Poor girl.

After the power packs were charged, they returned and we decided to play pirates one more time.  We all loaded up the dinghy and quietly glided across the harbor to the wedding.  Just feet off the shore we enjoyed the live band of the music.  We also highly enjoyed dancing on said dinghy to Dancing Queen and Streetlights.  Since the bay is very dark and everyone was in a tent, they couldn’t see us. Unless they came out to take a breather and get fresh air.  Then a few would spot us and wave as they watched us enjoy their party. We highly enjoyed watching some of the couples on the outside of the dance circle do their “mating” calls and dance some pretty funny things.  One guy had his tie off and was using it like a fishing rod to reel in his girlfriend.  Later she would mock hit his head like the cow bell that was playing in the band. It was hilarious.

The band called it a night at 11pm so we left as quietly as we came and returned to Ciara to hang out just a bit before we called it a night.

The darn high winds are now expected to pick up early tomorrow. They are forecasted to be pretty relentless for a few days.  We aren’t in the best spot, but very secure, so at the worst we will be just tossed around a little.  If we really need to we can haul up the anchor and head over to the other side of the bay to get out of the direct wind direction.  At least we have options.
