T minus a week
Captain and I have been talking all week through our various projects about how we could have been a little less lazy this winter and gotten a lot more done. Perhaps, maybe then, we wouldn’t be so busy. We agree, however, that we suspect we would continue to always find last minute projects. We are happy with what we got done, and we are happy with the downtime we gave ourselves this winter. It does feel that projects have taken a little longer then they should have. This blog being one of them…After being all excited that I could manage a free online blog I was already unhappy with how hard it was to format. It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t easy to navigate. My #1 fan did take the time to check out the blog and offer feedback about needing to log in and figure out how to even read this post I was more unhappy, as I want this to be an easy to find place. So I committed a step further and got myself on a platform I am familiar with that is user friendly and easier for you and much more pretty :D
Other projects that turned out to take a while included the gangway stairs. We noticed they were looking pretty worn (they are high use afterall) and decided at the last minute to bring it home for a new coat of varnish. The varnish wasn’t a big deal, but we decided to replace the worn metal toe kicks and those turned out to be a nightmare. Never again stated Captain. But they are beautiful now!
Captain left yesterday to go varnish the mast and a few more boat chores. I scrubbed the kitchen. Anyone else feel a strong need to leave the house spotless before they leave? I gave up my normal level of OCD when I realized I will have a teenager and young adult sibling staying here all summer and undoing all my hard work.
I’m feeling the feels with leaving the kids for the gaps this summer. I remind myself I took them for two weeks, will be taking them six it all does work out in the end. I love my large times with them, and miss them when they are gone. Cory has their sibling with them here at home so they can enjoy some “normal” teenager summer and camp as well. My kiddos will be enjoying time with dad and camps as well.
My packing lists are mostly checked off and set aside to pack in the car. I only really need to do my last minute grocery shop. The downstairs movie theater is now a full on pantry of Freeze Dried food, beverages, non perishables and boat restock items. It is more organized then it looks. It appears the freeze drying will pay off this summer. I hope everything reconstitutes properly. Stay tuned!
I am yearning really hard to unplug this summer. I have goals they include…
No surfing the internet, limiting time to research by making paper lists to remind me if it is that important
No doom scrolling, limited social media to catch important things with my friends and family
Reading, as much as possible
Writing this blog and also trying to find my voice in other types of writing
Being able to pull the anchor without Cory or Richard and long distance swimming workouts.
Add all the already known wonderful things to look forward to, sunsets, new and old friends, time with Richard (and kiddos), music, Taps, playing fetch with Kona and more this girl is ready to go. The ability to carve this amount of time out of a year is remarkable. It shows our dedication to the direction we want to take our lives. Our priorities and dreams are coming together!
