T-Plus one day
We began planning this summer just about the time we finished last summers adventure. With a thirst for more, we were as aggressive as we could have been in carving out an impressive 14 week trip. This took considerable effort to arrange with kids and shutting down our day to day life. Ciara was taken out a little early last season and she was put in the back of the storage shed where we work on her all winter. Same spot as last year. We knew we wouldn’t launch her in late April, but we rested well assuming she would be put in mid May like last year. Last year she was wet on May 10. After much sadness with the shipyard we have been delayed beyond our control and Ciara remains blocked in by at least three boats. We have a slight slight promise of splashing her in by Friday, but that hope is quickly fading and we are looking at hopefully next Tuesday. So, that pretty much takes our 14 weeks down to 13. And now a whole holiday weekend just wide open and not where we really want to be….
Captain and I spent some time sitting with our big feelings. For one, we are flexible to this, but we acknowledge it is just a big bummer. Our sailing season on the Great Lakes is just limited. We are considering going away this weekend and have some open invites to join friends on their boats, but I insist on keeping it simple. Because you see, we are in a strange spot. Our whole life is organized and ready to be put in my van. Anything much more complicated then clothes requires a lot of extra work. That extra work is also super not fun because I’m undoing months of hard organized work to only have to redo it again in a short turn around time.
Our life here at home is blank. Strange to sit here and be like “now what?” So I’ve decided to try and get into the mindset here ahead of time. I’ve been tossing my toilet paper into the trash instead of the water in preparation of re-learning that habit. Ha! I’m working Frisbee with Kona to get her back in shape. I’m growing Cilantro from seed to take aboard. At this rate, it might be mature before we leave. I’m staying off line except to work on this new writing/blog passion. Captain and I spent most of the day bringing my 2024 1st mate log over and cleaning up the website. You can now subscribe and I will send these updates to your inbox. We are really into it and hope it becomes a place for many things that we have hoped it would be for years. We are enjoying the last bits of hot showers, meals we cannot make aboard and the down time we have accidently created for ourselves.
I hope to have news soon and much more pretty things to show then the last pile of stuff ready to go and my baby cilantro!
