Healing up in Little Current
I slept much better with the Frankin-brace then the night before. The wing nuts were a bit of an issue but a pillow between my legs seemed to help. The brace is doing a good job and for the most part I have no pain, but certain movements still hurt and most of those are in bed when trying to turn my body while laying down.
I slept until after 8am. Everyone was still out. I was two days behind on my blog so I got writing as soon as Kona was fed. I finished one days’ worth of blog and I saw the time was 8:40. Captain, Cory and I wanted to go see the Cruiser Net radio show in person. Roy still isn’t back but we wanted to go support Paul and Deb who have taken over the show while he is out. Somehow, we got going in time and I started to slowly walk with my hiking stick to the municipal center where the show is held at 9am. We showed up a few minutes late but they were so happy to see us in house. We enjoyed the show and spent some time afterwards with Paul and Deb. They loved my brace. Hee hee.
We hobbled across the street and got some coffee for a treat. Cory really wanted to go to Tim Hortons so I returned to Ciara to work on the blog backup while they went and got treats. They also went to the automotive store to get more duct tape as Captain had used all of his on my brace. They met a nice kitty at the store. They found a wallet and saw it had a bank card in it so they returned it to that bank hoping they could get it back to the rightful owner.
I got an email saying my brace was set to be delivered but just 15 minutes later got a notification that they weren’t able to deliver. My bets were, sadly, correct. I had read on the cruisers net that, in theory, you can have amazon packages sent to the post office and so I decided to order another one and have it delivered there. Richard walked to the post office after I made the order and found out that amazon used to use Canada post but now, they use a third party and for liability reasons would not accept our package. Great, now I’ve spent over $100 on braces, both of which I may not get. We made a plan to intercept the truck tomorrow that should be carrying both of them and hope/pray the driver gives us the package in person. In the meantime, Frankin-brace is treating me well enough.
We decided to stay here all-day Tuesday and paid for another night’s slip. The weather, all things considered, is crappy this whole week. I had been stressing a little about it before the injury and of all the weeks to be tied to the dock, this is the best week to do so. Friday when the weather clears it looks amazing for the entire extended forecast. My plan is to rest up here so I can enjoy more later.
I spent the day with my leg propped up in the cockpit reading my book. I found some boater who has their Starlink with no password so I pirated internet off them here at the boat while keeping touch with everyone back home. Captain flew his drone a few times. I watched the eddies of Little Current swirl around us. Many people came by the wall and chatted with us. Some were just random tourist walking the docks who wanted to say how pretty the boat was and learn more, others were boaters who clearly remember us from years past. “You had more kids with you last year, correct?” “That was you playing trumpet last night, wasn’t it? We heard you two years ago at anchorage.” Etc etc. The North Channel feels like home, we love it here.
Around dinner time we decided to go out again. I would need my scooters as the walk was going to be a little longer than last night. The Hawthorne was very similar to the Anchor Inn and we all ordered basically the same meal of Poutine and fried pickles to share and Caesar salads. There were no leftovers. We met some other cruiser net folks at the restaurant. My leg now makes me recognizable, but everyone is just in awe of our invention. We were clued in that the pharmacy here in town has Tylenol with Codine. You just need to ask as it is behind the counter. Captain went back to the pharmacy to get me some. They were out and said they wouldn’t have any until Thursday. He showed them my brace and then they told him they get a shipment tomorrow at 9am, so we got moved up to a different list I guess. Not sure I really need it that strong, but that is hard to get stuff and I sure has heck have a reason for it and it is good to have aboard. He did come back with a brand new cane for me as my hiking stick isn’t really meant to be used as a cane. So now I have my first cane at the ripe age of 47.
Kona got a few Frisbee shore time throughout the day but I think she is happy just chilling with her momma as well. Two large power boats had joined the wall perpendicular to us throughout the day. The second one started to crank up obnoxious music around 8pm. Stereotypes exist for a reason and I had a bad feeling about this boat.
I played Last Post at 9pm. It was lovely, but sure enough as soon as I finished the obnoxious boat started heckling us. “Play I’m Proud to be and American!” “America, Fuck yeah!” We didn’t even acknowledge them. I don’t know if they are American’s themselves or Canadians. It doesn’t matter. I just get so upset when people have nothing better to do then be horrible people for no reason.
We were under a squall warning so after Last Post we set to take everything down on the boat. Flags, loose solar panels, everything. Added some extra dock lines. Again, when Captain went to take down our flags, we got heckled. Dude, grow up. Their drunk wives were no better.
Honestly it was a really nice day seeing folks and reading and relaxing. Something I had really wanted to do so I relished it as much as I could. We have at least another day here to do laundry, take showers and relax. Hopefully get not one, but two braces and heal up some more. The boat is a mess, between all the deck gear down below and the fact that 1st mate isn’t up to the full-time job of keeping things in order. Thankfully with small spaces things get messy fast, but hey also clean up fast. We will deal with it later and go to bed secure and happy. We wrapped a towel around my brace so the wing nuts won’t bother me tonight :D
