One more rest day in Little Current
I didn’t like sleeping in the new brace and was in a bit of pain every time I turned over last night. I do think I just over did it yesterday so today was bound to be a heavy reading day. I got off the boat first thing in the morning and was able to stand and throw a Frisbee for Kona but after that I sat down below and read all day. The wind is high and the temps are nice and cool, but didn’t make for comfortable reading up deck. Captain brought me a donut and coffee from Tim Hortons while I listened to him chat with all the people that stopped by our boat while he did some boat chores. I took a little nap mid-day. Cory went shopping.
Around dinner time we decided we would once again go to the Anchor Inn. We decided we would head over around 6pm when there was a knock on our hull. A couple Captain had chatted with earlier in the day had come over to invite us over for happy hour. Geoff likes Gin so I was up and putting my brace one lickity split! The are on a beautiful Viking, which is a deep-sea fishing boat but sure as heck looked and felt like a luxury yacht to me. Beautiful soft teal hull named Smooth as Silk. The smooth silk being a tribute to their adorable and sweet Havanese dog Gracie. He had a gin called Empress. It is blue and turns purple with the tonic. That alone is fun, but it was also delicious! The veggie tray Mary put out was gobbled up so fast she had to put out extra. I forget how little fresh produce we get and how much we appreciate it when offered. The evening turned to late before we knew it. We weren’t going to make dinner at the Anchor Inn as they closed at 9pm and it was already 8:30! Cory and Captain went back to Ciara to grab some side dishes and my trumpet as we all decided to grill some burgers aboard Smooth as Silk. I played Last Post from their boat. They said they were honored, but it went both ways. Dinner was better then anything we could have ordered out (no offense to the Anchor Inn). The burgers were so flavorful. They enjoyed our Michigan Cherry BBQ chips. After dinner Mary pulled out some neat pre made glass jars of individual cheesecakes. She put a candle in one and let us know that it was actually Geoff’s birthday! We sang to him and glad we were able to spend the special night with them. They were, like us, stuck at the docks and hadn’t really planned to spend his birthday here.
Before we knew it, midnight was upon us. Two G&T’s and, I think, two glasses of wine had me almost asleep on their comfortable couch! We walked the slow cane walk back to Ciara and called it a night. We hope to get off the wall tomorrow and meet back up with our friends on Lucia at least for one night. We know where they are thanks to the Cruiser’s Net radio show. Time to stalk our friends! It has been really nice here in Little Current and we will be back as this our main source of fuel, pump out and food, but we are very happy to go back on the hook again.
