Day 38 - 8/2/24

I awoke, again, before everyone. I sat up deck enjoying the cool air and the absolute stillness that surrounded me and wrote my daily log. Around 8 I roused everyone to get going as we were headed to Little Current and we wanted to make the 10am swing bridge.

I’m amazed how efficiently our crew can get up

And get going and once anchor was pulled Bert started to make some breakfast. Cory and I made a grocery list and we made plans for the day once we made it to town. We enjoyed watching the scenery and listening to Roy’s morning show along the way. We noted that there was a boaters gathering this afternoon and also a trivia game based on some local history that he taught us. The first person to show up after 1pm at Turner’s (the same local business we had already bought charts, books and our souvenirs at) you would get a prize.

We made it to our bridge and were grateful to get an easy slip. It’s a big holiday weekend here (forgive me for not remembering exactly the holiday) but it is the busiest weekend here on the island. There will

Be a major fireworks display on Sunday which we will sadly miss (Kona is thrilled to miss it though). The main road is closed to vendors and music and a lot going on.

The crew immediately went to work once docked, taking out trash, cleaning deck and the dinghy, etc. Richard and quickly ran to the store for meat restock and some produce.

We finished our chores just before 1 and I said we should go check out Turners and answer the trivia question. Being so prompt walking in the door at 1 (thanks military up bringing) I won the prize! I honestly was expecting a cool sticker or maybe a keychain. I was shocked when Debbie Turner handed me a bag with two baseball caps and two sweatshirts. All souvenirs to places we had been. Many thanks to Turners and the LCYC Cruisers' Net for the special gifts.

We had just enough time to take some COLD (on purpose) showers before we headed to the Cruisers’ net social hour where we met up with Roy and a slew of other boaters from a wide background of boats and experiences. It was really lovely to see everyone. We also got our spare part that we ordered a week ago!

We made Fajita friday and chatted with new and old friends before Taps/Last post. Cathy from SV Starting Soon came by with fresh parsley from her garden-we will enjoy that asap! I played with extra care tonight trying to set aside big emotions all while a group had gathered to watch my now famous 3 minutes.

With the sun down we took Kona for a long walk and called it an evening. I’m sad that the next many days are more about heading west and logistics then just enjoying our time, but we will make the most of it for sure. The memories and all the people we have met along the way will be with us for a long time.
