Day 50 - 8/14/24

We again woke this morning and skipped Kona’s morning walk in favor of picking up anchor and moving about an hour around the corner to Sleepong Bear dunes. Dead calm, glass water. Our friend we met Mackinac island was about an hour and half behind us so we walked the beach and found a Petoskey stone as we waited. When Chris and his lady friend arrived we walked the dune with them showing them the joy of the great sleeping bear. We took our time all while Kona ran up and down…up and down and up and down the dunes saying hi to everyone along the way and giving motivation. She stayed with Richard the entire way making sure he made it and to cheers at the top as she helped pull him the last bit of the way.

We enjoyed the view for a bit and then had fun running down the dunes. Kona drank half of Lake Michigan at the bottom as a reward.

We then had a pleasant 3 hour sail to Frankfort where we dropped anchor in the very protected lake Betsie. The marina is full in anticipation for big winds the next few days and we are on a waiting list but we are in a secure spot.

We went out to dinner with Chris and his lady friend, got ice cream and walked to the light house.

We love this town, we are looking forward to a few days to do nothing but relax as we await a good window to cross Lake Michigan. This will be our 15th crossing of the Great Lake, but once we cross we are home so we are going to enjoy our time we have left with an amazing beach and down time.
