Day 53 - 8/17/24
Our minds are empty. The days are long and relaxing.
Today we got some shore coffee and Kona got a pup cup. She pleased everyone with her manners. We then went and checked out a local car show where Richard took notes on new engine projects for his vast garage of projects. Kona and I just chatted with people. There was a nice little farmers market as well. We came back and had some breakfast burritos for brunch and then fixed a part of our main sail that broke off when I last lifted the sails. The last slide hook grabbed the railing and came off from the bottom and bent the side. We had to lift then boom with the main halyard and slide it in from the correct entry point. I guess we now have a stopper at the bottom as we aren’t going to be able to bend it back without it falling off.
We then took the dinghy to the other side of lake Betsie and hiked Elberta beach. Just as far as the beach as we always have gone to just not as busy. In all our years coming here we have never checked out the other side. Kona had fun swimming the waves and rolling in the sand. There was a nice distillery that overlooked lake Betsie and we enjoyed some nice drinks and incredible pizza.
We spent the evening enjoying the DJ of a wedding party on shore from our boat and yelling at the hordes of fishermen who have no regards to safety/no wake zones or navigation lights. Pretty sure the sheriff could make bank here by enforcing some common sense here forming salmon season. Maybe save a few boats as well as someone hit the breakwater at full speed earlier this week.
